The games are coming thick and fast for Town at the moment but on Tuesday it was an opportunity to put Saturday’s below par performance to bed and hopefully pick up 3 points away at a strong Crawley Down Gatwick side.

In the dying embers of summer, Town got of to a fantastic start when uncertainness at the back for the host’s resulted in a back pass going straight in from 20 yards!!

0-1

The game was high energy from then on with Town going close from a corner when Boiling seem to miss from close range (twice), McGrath shooting from out wide and youngster Bloomfield causing the defenders problems but the inevitable sucker punch came when the referee seemed to play the advantage for a foul only to stop play a good 2 minutes later and award a free kick just wide of the penalty area. Slack marking from Town allowed a free header to drift over the outstretched hand of Marsden to level things up 2 minutes before half time.

1-1

As the second half got under way it was much of the same, Town pressing high with good energy and the hosts causing problems from long passes to the pacey from men. Chance came and went for Town and on 78th minute a hopeful ball into the box wasn’t dealt with by Boiling and Gathern only for the CDG striker to nip in and slot pass Marsden.

2-1

Town made a couple of changes to try and get back into the game with Cousins and Max Howell for his league debut but with no avail as the final whistle came and Town slumped to another defeat.

Credit has to go to the players for a much better performance from Saturday but football is a funny old game and although Town were the better side it was the hosts who took the points.

On to Saturday now when Town will look to take home advantage against Langley and try to climb the table.
