STCFC 0 – 0 Horsham YMCA
Steyning Town and Horsham YMCA fought out a mainly forgettable goalless draw on Saturday at The Birchwood Ground.
On the day when most of the games across the County were canceled, Town will feel it was 2 points dropped as they wasted a number of chances in a game they dominated for most parts.
In fact JJ in the Town goal was a spectator for most of the afternoon and was only troubled by one shot from the visitors which clipped the top of his bar. YM must be credited with an excellent defensive performance as Town struggled to break them down and many of the chances they created were half-chances or from distance which rarely troubled Jeal in the YM goal.
Town reverted to 4-3-3 for this game, mainly to accommodate a start for exciting 16-year-old Bloomfield who has made an excellent impact from the bench recently. He came in for a full debut playing wide right with Radmore on the left. Andrade, mask and all, remained in the centre with Sabino in behind.
On 12 minutes Radmore escaped down the left, full of running, but his shot came to nothing. Shortly after on 15 minutes Radmore was at it again striking a low shot wide after good individual work again. On 22 minutes it was the turn of Hards who finished a very good run with a low shot dragged narrowly wide. Hards and Sabino continued to be prominent in these early exchanges as were wide men Radmore and Bloomfield.
With 30 minutes on the clock, Andrade shot wide from a cross from Bloomfield. Sabino floated a freekick over the bar after Bloomfield was scythed down following a good direct run. On 40 minutes the lively Bloomfield escaped down the right and pulled back a precise low cross but Faber skewed wide from 12 yards.
Half time 0-0.
Town continued to set the pace in the 2nd half and on 48 mins Sabino drove a shot high and wide. On 60 mins Jeal saved well when Bloomfield stabbed a half-chance straight at him. Soon after it looked like Radmore was certain to open the scoring but dragged his left foot shot agonisingly wide. 73 minutes and it was 16 year old Spano on > Radmore off
75 minutes and a good move by Horsham saw the ball flash across town goal, soon after a cross cum shot had clipped the Town bar.
Hards continued to impress in midfield and many of our best moments came via his energy and persistence. Andrade came into the game more late on as he bought a ball down but shot well wide with the outside of the boot . On 80 mins a deflected shot by Tiago hit the base of the post. Town continued to push but a combination of poor decision making in the final third and some bad luck suggested we would be here all night without a goal. So 0-0 it was. A well-reffed game played in good spirits but in all honesty, it lacked a bit of fizz.
Towns back 4 of Clark, Gathern, White and Weston were excellent all afternoon stifling many potential attacks from the visitors and providing a solid platform for the side.
The draw maintains Towns unbeaten run which now stretches to 13 games, however more draws than wins recently!!!
