STCFC 2 – 0 Pagham

Steyning Town rallied to their second win in the space of a week, and also their second clean sheet in a row, as they picked up three excellent points on Saturday with a 2-0 home win against Pagham FC. The win came on the back of the excellent FA Cup victory last week.

The key moments in the game came one in each half. Firstly Conor Bull drove home a well struck low shot from just outside the box on 14 minutes to give Town the lead, and then on 72 minutes Tiago Andrade, making his home debut, powered home high in to the net after being played in by Josh Maher. There was hint of offside about the second goal, but Andrade was given the benefit of the doubt as he wrapped up the 3 points.

The game was a pretty open and entertaining one overall, with quite a few chances at both ends. Town best efforts fell to Radmore who had two strikes well saved, and Maher, full of running all afternoon had an excellent second half goal incorrectly chalked off for offside.

At the other end , Paghams young side, managed by Steyning playing legend Bob Paine, had a number of chances in both halves, but they were very wasteful with all of them. The impressive George Cody doing alot of great runs but not being able to apply the finish his build up play and direct running possibly deserved.

After the second goal it felt like there was no way back for Pagham. Conor Kelly made a very assured debut in goal, and his handling and kicking was excellent all afternoon. In front of him Fizpatrick put in a MOM award next to Timms as he replaced absent skipper Gathern.  Haulkham also impressed over the afternoon in midfield. Town looked increasingly likely that they may add to their tally but wastefulness in the final third ensured 2-0 was the final score. It was great to see longest serving player Lewis Levoi make his first appearance of the season as a late sub, and Romain also looked lively and sharp after coming on for Bull with some lovely passing and touches in the final quarter.

Great to chalk up our first 3 points of the season. Good preparation as we make the trip over to Horley Town this Tuesday evening.

Well played lads.
