STCFC 1 – 4 Ramsgate

On a sunny afternoon at the Birchwood game, Town went into this tough game on the back of a good performance on Tuesday away at Horley where they really deserved to get a point. A change of formation and personal saw Faber and Haulkham return to the middle of the park with Romain dropping to the bench and new signing Weston unavailable and JJ back betweenthe sticks.

Ramsgate started quickly but Town seemed to cope with any real threats and on 15 minutes could of taken the lead with great play down the left from Maher who played in Haulkham who in turn slid Bull in only to fire at the Rams keeper. After that Ramsgate started to press more in the final third with that reslting in winner a dangerous free kick on the edge of Towns area. JJ lined the wall perfectly but what was either a cheeky effort or a slice of luck the Ramsgate taker managed to deflect his effort pass the diving JJ to take the lead.

0-1.

Town were rocked by that and 5 minutes before the break the Rams extended their lead with a thunderbolt shot from 30 yards out that deceived JJ in the Town goal to make the score going in at half time 0-2.

Second half started the same as the first finished with Ramsgate causing Town problems with there movement and created a few good chances but never really troubled JJ until the 60 minute when the Rams number 9 linked up well then to smash the ball past JJ to increase their lead.

0-3.

Town made changes at that stage with Romain, Radmore and Hands coming on for Benson, Haulkham and Bull which meant a tweak  of system to try snd get back into the cup tie but with Town pushing forward Ramsgate found space down the left, swung a teasing cross into the box for the Rams substitute to rifle home.

0-4.

After Towns hard work in the blistering sun, Romain managed to nick himself a consolation goal that was well deserved and gave the home fans something to cheer.

1-4.

The final whistle blew shortly after and for this year, Towns dreams of lifting the FA Cup were over and Ramsgate remain in the “hat” and we wish them well. For Town, it will have to be the FA Vase that will take us to Wembley this year!!

Town return to league action on Tuesday away at Saltdean then away to Peacehaven in the FA Vase next Saturday.
