Littlehampton Town FC 2 – 0 STCFC

Town’s SCFA Senior Cup campaign and 12 match unbeaten run came to an end on Tuesday night with a 2-0 defeat away to Littlehampton.

Despite it being Bonfire Night there certainly weren’t too many fireworks for us on a disappointing evening at St Flora’s Road.

Due to the recent deluge, the pitch conditions were not great but it was the same for both sides and the hosts were the more dominant and controlling throughout, making it clear why they currently lead the way in Division One.

We tried to mix it with them upfront with Andrade and Sabino looking for opportunities but the home side’s fluidity and ability to attack strongly down the flanks were the telling factors.

We were caught cold early on when Gold’s skipper Mitchell Hand struck from 20yrds out to put them ahead and from then on were always chasing the game.  Littlehampton remained very hard to break down, quickly turning defence into attack and a superb strike from just outside our box by talisman striker George Gaskin ultimately sealed the tie.

Some very good reflex saves from JJ kept the score down at the break.

We battled in the second half and a full-stretch save was required from Golds keeper Binwell to keep out a good attempt from Josh Parazo.

We rolled the subs with the fresh legs of Grant Radmore, Ben Spano and Billy White coming off the bench to try to salvage the tie.

The refereeing was a little questionable at times with a number of blatant fouls by the home team seemingly going unpunished.

Not our night though and all credit to Littlehampton and all the best to them for the next Round.

There’s every chance we’ll be locking horns with them again in the Premier Division next season!

Next up, this Saturday we hit the road again with a trip over to AFC Uckfield (KO at The Oaks – 3pm).
