East Preston 1 – 3 STCFC

Radmore only scores worldies!!

Town traveled to East Preston on the back of a hard-fought point last time out at Peacehaven and with a determination to get something out of the game for Vice Captain Timmsy who was taken ill at Peacehaven.

Gerry made one change from Saturday with Levoi unavailable Romain came into midfield and Weston returned to the squad after a bout of sickness. East Preston on paper had a strong starting line-up and started the quicker side but never really troubled JJ in goal in the opening exchanges and Town soon settled into their stride. Romain was relishing his first start in 4 weeks and linked up well with Andrade to create a few half chances but it was good pressure from Faber that finally saw the opening when a loft pass forward caught the EP keeper out and the quick thinking Andrade nodded Town in front just before half time. 0-1

Town made a change at the break with White going off and Maher coming on to give a little more balance to the team and it wasn’t long before Maher was galloping down the left and causing the EP right-back problems. Chances came and went for Town as they started to get on top of EP and it was on the hour mark that they doubled there lead with the ever-lively Radmore picking the ball up on the right-hand side, then jinking past two EP players he looked up to notice the keeper of his line and floated a delightful 35yrd shot into the top left corner.  0-2.

That seemed to rattle the East Preston team to life and almost straight away they started to press Town more and it was 5 minutes later when Darwin seems to take on the role of Moses and part the Town defence like the Red Sea and slot home to halve the deficit.  1-2.

After a few stern words from the dugout Town gained control back and were on the front foot when great work from Andrade and Radmore lead to the later picking the pocket of the EP center-half and from fully 35yrds out smashed home and surely secured all 3 points in what wasn’t the prettiest game of football.  1-3.

Weston and Haulkham came on to sure things up for Town and the final 10 minutes were seen out without any real dramas to report. Overall, a comfortable win for Town on a tricky pitch and a mature performance from almost all of the lads (the only exception was JJ who managed to talk his way into the Sin Bin. Credit to Fitzy who covered the 10 minutes and produced a couple of great point-blank saves but we were unsure of what body part he used!!).

Town takes on an old foe this Saturday as Selsey return to the Birchwood Stadium in the RUR Cup, KO 3pm.
