Eighty four days after Leicester City’s shock victory over Chelsea at Wembley, the 2021-22 FA Cup campaign begins in its traditional early August slot.
729 clubs will be dreaming of Wembley as the 150th instalment of the world’s oldest knockout cup competition kicks off with the Extra Preliminary Round and the £1,125 available to the winners of the opening, earliest round.
The draw for this season’s competition has been made and Gerry Murphy’s senior men’s side find themselves up against a familiar foes. The extra-preliminary round often sees sides from the same geographical region pitted with each other and this time it’s no different.
Town have been drawn with divisional rivals Pagham at the first hurdle, with the tie to be played at the Shooting Field on Saturday 7th August, 3pm kick off. Murphy’s men won through two rounds in last year’s competition, seeing off K Sports and Hanworth Villa to reach the First Qualifying Round where the run was ended at the hands of Sheppey. The Lions of Pagham, meanwhile, knocked out Combined Counties Fleet Town before falling to Hampshire-based AFC Stoneham of the Wessex League in the Preliminary Round. Neither Town nor their opponents have ever got beyond the Second Qualifying Round.
