STCFC 3 – 1 Godalming Town

Steyning Town under 18s played in the FA Youth Cup on Friday night and run out 3-1 winners against a very good  Godalming Town side.

In the early part of the game, it seemed the visitors were going to make it a very difficult night for George Staples new under 18 team.

However, the boys dug in deep and turned it around and eventually ran out 3-1 winners with excellent performance and a dominant second-half display.

Isaac Paulson was excellent in goal for Steyning all evening especially in the first 20 minutes where he made a number of crucial saves as the visitors started in lively fashion.

Steyning’s opening goal and scored just before half time with an excellent individual strike from Whitehouse, turning neatly on the goal-line and rifling home from a narrow-angle.

Toby Bloomfield scored with a fine strike from distance shortly after half time and at this stage, Steyning looked really comfortable.

However, a soft goal conceded with 20 minutes to go opened the door for the visitors.

However, this Steyning team had other ideas and Bloomfield scored his second of the night with another excellent strike from distance after beating two players.

The Town team managed to see the game out with little stress after this. Pace saw a shot cleared off the line and a header hit the post.

For a first competitive outing for this team the signs were encouraging. The back four looked solid all night, the midfield three played excellently and we looked dangerous going forward.

The three subs who came on also played their part in steering Town towards a very worthy victory in front of an excellent crowd of 154 at The Birchwood Ground.

Awaiting in the next round is Knaphill FC away which promises to be another exciting evening for this team
